As temperatures fall and the air gets drier, your skin pays the price. In frigid conditions the skin is less able to protect itself, this can lead to cracks in the outer layer of skin, loss of hydration, and ultimately, inflammation.
The biggest focus of your winter skin-care routine should be preserving moisture in skin to prevent dryness.
1. Swap your foam cleanser for a cream, balm or oil based one.
Foam cleansers tend to be more drying on the skin. As a rule of thumb, if your skin feels tight after washing it is likely that the cleanser you are using has disrupted your skin barrier. Skin should feel calm and hydrated after washing.
2. Change your moisturiser.
Nourishing nourishing ceramides and glycerin protect the skin by trapping moisture inside. I haven’t tried it yet but the @skinrocks the rich moisturiser looks perfect for protecting winter skin.
3. Face oils extends the work of your moisturizer by locking the moisture in. It seals in the nourishing ingredients of your moisturizer, making your skin stay hydrated for longer. It’s particularly important to lock in moisture during your nighttime routine as your skin naturally loses moisture during the night.

A while ago I was having numerous hormonal breakouts around my chin. While I got those sorted I was left with lots of post acne marks that wouldn't go.
I would always reach for Niacinamide and Azelaic acid to help with redness and healing.
This time I added a new product from The Ordinary, The Aloe 2% + NAG 2% Solution. And it's made a big difference to the speed of healing.

To prevent premature aging, it’s important to avoid culprits responsible for the reduced structural integrity of our skin. Some causes are more obvious—like spending too much time in the sun without proper protection—while others are much more sneaky.
Eating too much sugar
Can lead to a process called glycation, where sugar molecules bind to proteins like collagen and elastin, causing them to become less flexible and more prone to wrinkles and sagging. Additionally, high sugar intake can contribute to inflammation and oxidative stress, both of which are known to accelerate skin aging.
Air Pollution.
Pollutants can easily pass through the skin and cause many issues from inflammation, including pigmentation, redness and destroy collagen
Excessive Exfoliation
This is one area where too much of a good thing can start to backfire. Excessive exfoliation—greater than once weekly or biweekly—can lead to microtears in the skin and a damaged skin barrier.
Your Mental Health
Studies have shown that being depressed and sad may possibly accelerate the aging process at the molecular level by influencing cellular aging. Further, repeated expressions associated with being sad, angry, stressed, or depressed can start to become “imprinted” into the skin.
Extreme Dieting And Rapid Weight Loss
Rapid loss of volume can lead to premature aging by ‘deflating’ our face and body leading to decreased collagen and elasticity and skin laxity.
Damaging your skins barrier
This allows moisture to escape more easily, leading to dryness and unable to protect against environmental stressors, which can accelerate the aging process.

The release of stress hormones like cortisol, can lead to increased inflammation, collagen breakdown, and a reduction in the skin’s ability to repair itself, contributing to premature aging signs such as wrinkles and dullness

What is skin cell turnover?
Skin cell turnover is the biological process of replacing existing dead skin cells with new, younger cells.
Our skin cells are constantly renewing and regenerating themselves. This process of self-renewal is much faster when we’re younger – in our twenties, it happens roughly every 30 days – but as we age, the process becomes slower.
How does skin cell turnover impact skin ageing?
Like many biological processes, as we celebrate more birthdays, our skin cell turnover becomes less efficient. And it’s one of the contributing factors in our skin losing that firm, plumped-up look.
Skin that is regenerating efficiently looks more youthful, as the outer layer of the skin is more toned and even, enabling it to reflect light to produce a youthful glow.
As we age, the sluggish pace of regeneration can make our skin appear dull.
This reduction in effective skin cell turnover often happens alongside a process called senescence – one of the key markers of ageing. ‘Senescence is a cell state in which cells stop dividing and develop unique characteristics.

Is rubbing your eyes the cause of your dark circles?
Rubbing the eyes can result in damage to the blood vessels under the skin’s surface. This may cause the vessels to break and bleed. When the blood accumulates in this area, you will notice the skin getting darker in colour.
The good news is this is not a permanent problem, but can reoccur with regular episodes of eye rubbing.
Other issues constant rubbing can cause include;
Fine lines and wrinkles: There is some thought that the rubbing can damage the collagen bonds but this hasn’t be proven however constant rubbing can lead to the skin becoming irritated and damaged which current and future fine line and wrinkles worse.
Increased Risk of Infection: Our hands are full of bacteria. Each time you rub your eyes, you are potentially exposing your eyes to these bacteria or viruses.
Damage to your Cornea: The physical trauma induced by the eye rubbing resulting in damage to the cornea’s collagen fibres. This can result in an irregularity in the shape and contour of the cornea and a thinned area that bulges outward.
I’m at THE WORST for rubbing my eyes. I have always had itchy eyes from a young age due to allergies and I’m now pretty sure it’s one of the causes of my dark circles. But the past 6 months has been the worse it’s ever been. Because I have been so tired ( having a baby will do that) I have been rubbing my eyes so much and it has cause so much irritation to the skin around them.
